The Sub sea vehicle monitoring package consists of a 3 inch diameter X 8 inch long pressure housing suitable for depths down to 3000 metres. An echo sounder is built into the face of the device which determines height of the vehicle from the sea bed within approximately 30 metres whilst an integrated pressure sensor determines depth of the package Data is provided via the sub sea connector giving both height off the sea bed and depth from the surface using an industry standard RS232 serial link An optional modem provides communication if the data is to be transmitted over long distances. The same 2 electrical wires used for the power can also be used for the communication.
Data modem, (sub sea details) This consists of a small circuit module fitted to the main PCB, (this can be fitted either at manufacture or later). The small modem module takes the serial data from the altimeter /depth sensor and optionally the distance run wheel then superimposes the data on to the power line using FSK/CURRENT LOOP technology.
Data modem, (top side detail) The top side consists of a demodulator/power supply and LCD display. The unit provides power to the sub sea package and reads the data from the same power line.
